Huncoat Trail

'Huncoat is a small village near Accrington situated on the slopes of the Pennine hills below the 1,340 feet high Great Hameldon. The place name was recorded in the 11th Century Domesday Book when Lancashire was still largely covered by peatmoss and woodland. In medieval times Huncoat was the cross-roads for two packhorse trade routes and expanded in the 19th Century with the Industrial Revolution.
