A-Z of WALKS and CATEGORIES
Esh Parish Council
'In 1997 Esh Parish Council launched its leaflet "Esh Parish Walk", with funding from the Parish Paths Partnership ... The walk takes approximately 3 hours to complete and apart from a steep climb near the start, is not strenuous.'
ALERT At Review, the description of the Walk seemed no longer to be accessible from the Council Website; but still was from the Wikipedia Page now instead linked to in this Record.
'The walk celebrates the ceremony of "Beating the Bounds". Traditionally, in the days before accurate maps, the villagers would walk the boundaries of the parish during Rogationtide (the fifth week after Easter) so that the memories of the boundaries would be regularly reinforced. This was so that the parishioners would know where to pay their church taxes.'
