'In AD 2000, as part of their millennium celebrations, Wollaston Parish Council erected ten Green Plaques around the village, each identifying a location of historical interest. More have been added each year, both by the Parish Council and the Wollaston Heritage Society. This walk around these Green Plaques traces Wollaston's heritage from its early beginning to the present day ... Wollaston was first settled in the early 9th century when it was known as Wulflaf's Town after a local Saxon chief and until the early 20th century it was principally an agricultural village. Lace making became the first major industry at the end of the 17th century, followed in the 19th century by the boot and shoe trade. At the beginning of the 21st century lace making has long gone, and the shoe industry has all but disappeared ...'
