'Derby Arboretum was the first public park in Britain and was a trend-setter in that Central Park in New York was based upon its design! Located just south of the city centre, it's a Grade II listed picturesque park with a fine collection of trees ... Towards the end of the 20th Century, the Arboretum was in decline. In 2002 the park received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to refurbish it and help bring it back to its former condition.'
