'Accessible Countryside for Everyone (ACE) is an independent voluntary project, it is not a sales platform, it does not endorse products, it is here to provide information and promote accessibility to leisure and sport in England and Wales – primarily aimed at those with mobility issues, their carers and families.'
Neil Pedley
'Our forests and woodlands offer walks for all ages and abilities, from spectacular mountain hikes and sheltered pinewood trails to quiet streamside paths that meander under old oak trees ...
* National Trails Featured
'National Trails are long distance walking, cycling and horse riding routes through the best landscapes in England and Wales. In Scotland the equivalent are 26 Great Trails.' (And in Northern Ireland there is the Ulster Way.)
* Walking in ... England Featured
'Thousands of FREE walks to download. So, near home or on holiday there will be a great walk for you! Every County gives you: Free walk descriptions to download; Ordnance Survey maps for the County; All the walking clubs in the county.'
'Established since 1995, we have built our reputation on delivering the highest-quality walking experiences through both guided and self-guided walking holidays.'
'All county councils or unitary authorities in England and Wales have a legal duty to provide and review public rights of way maps, which are known as Definitive Maps and Definitive Map Statements, which support them. These maps show footpaths, bridle ways, byways open to all traffic, restricted byways, roads used as public paths and unmarked footpaths (e.g. a stile at each end of a field but no path between). This article describes definitive maps and statements and provides links to each local authority's maps.'
'The Disabled Ramblers exists to help mobility-challenged people get back out into the countryside. Able-bodied helpers are welcome to support members and to help with loading scooters ... About 30 rambles are run each year across England and Wales – mostly from March to October ... Many of our ramble routes can be found on OutdoorActive.com. This app allows you to download our routes to your smart phone to follow in the outdoors.'
'Wide open beaches, meandering coastal paths, bustling harbour towns, quiet seaside villages – if you don’t know the coastline of England, now’s the time to explore! ... England’s Coast is an exciting new tourism initiative offering you a wealth of holiday experiences. Watch the videos, create your ideal itinerary and book direct. Get away from the busy tourist routes and off the beaten track to explore the stunning landscapes and rich heritage of the English coast.'
'The historic places in our care span six millennia and include palaces, houses, hill figures, castles, abbeys, industrial sites, Roman forts and even deserted medieval villages. Caring for these places and their collections for the benefit of this and future generations is a cornerstone of everything we do. The generous support of many donors enables us to do this. We have now embarked on the largest conservation programme in our history. Highly skilled conservation work will be carried out on an unprecedented scale; and we will allow the public to witness this as it progresses.'
'This is not the first website to describe walks on the UK's long distance footpaths, and it is certainly not the best. However many of the other websites are written by people who are super-fit - and men. I'm neither ...'
'This list of ancient woods in England contains areas of ancient woodland in England larger than ten hectares. The list is arranged alphabetically by ceremonial county.'
'Emerged thanks to an anonymous donation to commemorate the achievements of the Paralympics and Para World Carriage Driving Championships in 2012 ... 20 routes available to view and download on our website. All of the routes use definitive public rights of way when possible, and permissive sections where necessary. Carriage drivers, horse riders, cyclists and walkers can all use these routes.'
'We work to promote walking for pleasure, health, leisure and transport to everyone, of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, in towns and cities as well as in the countryside. We want England to be a place where people choose to go walking, contributing to their health and well being and supporting a more sustainable way of life.'
'It’s almost impossible not to feel good when we’re walking outdoors – it’s a natural mood-booster! And the great news is we don’t need to walk far or fast to feel its effects on our health and wellbeing. Simply getting out is a tonic for our minds and bodies, and it can be sociable too. Almost all of us can manage a stroll, and Ramblers Wellbeing Walks make it easier to start walking and stay active. And you’ll certainly never be short of good company.'
Covers England. There have been similar initiatives for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
'visitbytrain.info aims to help you plan visits by train to attractions in cities, towns, villages and the countryside. Maps show attraction locations and routes to walk, with bus services where appropriate.' At the time of review, coverage of the southern half of England.

'Almost 28,000 Pillboxes were built in 1940/41 but now it is estimated only about 20% remain and many of these are in a poor condition. There may only be 1000 left in good condition. Their survival is threatened, even though interest in pillboxes is growing, and many more are likely to disappear. This website is a record of ones I have seen and how you can find them on walks throughout the country.'
