'Friendly group of people from Chester, Wirral and North Wales who enjoy walking, socialising and weekends away ... Chester and District Walking Group was formerly known as Chester YHA Walking Group prior to a name-change in 2007. The group was founded in the 1980s although it has been suggested that our walk origins go back as far as the 1940s and 50s.'
As good as you make it ... : 'We run weekend, day and evening events throughout the year. There's something on every week and often several times a week during summer. We plan to have a weekend away every month, and several day walks and biking events every month. During the summer we also have evening walks and biking events every week.'

There are dry sandstone paths, lots of mature trees to shade or shelter under depending on the weather and the forest of Blakemere for bird watchers ... Use our Forest Guide to find walking and cycling routes.'

'The dizzying Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which carries the canal over the River Dee, is a must-see. This remarkable feat of canal engineering is 125 feet high, and the canal is unprotected on one side, giving the impression of a sheer drop from a narrowboat. The structure is deservedly a World Heritage Site ...'
Llangollen Canal [Wikipedia]
'From its start at the top of Helsby Hill, the Trail runs in a generally south-westerly direction for a total of just over 19 km (12 miles) to the Shropshire Union Canal west of Chester.'
'Partially waymarked long distance footpath in the United Kingdom. It runs 351 kilometres / 218 miles through the Welsh–English borderlands, traditionally known as the Welsh Marches and links the cities of Chester in the north and Cardiff in the south ... The Marches Way was removed from the Ordnance Survey map series in 2004 after only being detailed on these particular maps for approximately 5 years.'
The Jewel in the Crown 'Situated on the River Dee side of the Wirral Peninsula, midway between the cities of Chester and Liverpool and close to the gateway to North Wales, it has many features of interest for visitors. With free parking and bus and train links, access to this ancient market town, with weekly Friday market, is user friendly. The surrounding villages are linked by the Wirral Country Park , the first of its kind in the country, and this provides a focus for many local walks spiralling from its heart. These pass through beautiful rural settings and along the coastline with views of the Welsh hills and access to the second biggest site for migrating birds in the country.'
'Cheshire's newest and longest path. It provides 70 miles of waymarked walking from Wirral to the Peak District across some of Cheshire's most beautiful countryside.'
'Accompanying the opening of the path in September 2006 the Society has published a full-colour 110-page Guide Book that includes maps, walking instructions and a wealth of information about what can be seen on or near a route that is a real "slice of Cheshire".
